2017 Start!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and may you all have a prosperous and safe New Year all through.
After perusing a lot of events from last year, it is obvious that the maintaining of several simple but effective policies will certainly improve and fortify the percentages in all avaition operators favour.

Planning - it doesn't matter how simple the task is, or how many times it has been done, time spent planning and briefing is well spent. If you don't know how to brief people, don't get embarassed about it and not do it. Get assistance from someone who can show you, or do a few practice ones to break the ice. The unplanned/unbriefed portion of any task has the capacity to bring everything to grief and thats the part that will be remembered and paid for, sometimes in very hard currency.

Push-on itis! - this includes persisting or putting up with difficult circumstances. if you can land and sort out a poor task profile to enable a successful result then that is a sound professional decision befitting of a Captain, and the right to make those decisions is unassailable. (corporate boardrooms don't have PANS or MAYDAYS!). Going around criteria is a checklist calculation to cofirm your performance options, not having it is not ideal; not calculating it is a marked reduction in the interest in living.

Physically check your fuel, or you don't know at all!
Leave the ego at home. Egos don't create lift, fuel or runway length!

All the best. Steve
